Daman is the capital city of the Indian Union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. It is a municipality located in the Daman district of Union Territory. T St. Jerome Fort, also known as Nani Daman Fort, recalls the area’s Portuguese colonial past, to the north. Across the Daman Ganga River, the Moti Daman Fort contains the ruins of a Dominican monastery, and the Basilica of Bom Jesus Church, known for its gilt altar. Nearby, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary has intricate carvings. The river Ganges divides this into two parts — Nani-Daman and Moti-Daman. Despite the name, Nani-Da-man is the larger of the two parts, while the old town is originally Moti-Da-man. It contains most of the important entities like major hospitals, supermarkets and major residential areas Vapi, Gujarat is the nearest town to this place.
