Calangute is a town in North Goa. It’s famous for its beach. The beach is the largest in North Goa and is visited by thousands of domestic and international tourists alike. The peak tourist season is during Christmas and New Year. Also during the summer in May. During the monsoon season, from June to September, the sea can be rough and swimming is prohibited. The beach offers water sports activities like parasailing and water skiing among others. At the beginning of the “Hippie Movement” in 1960, Calangute, a small town in Goa, was declared an “Earthly Absolute Country.” Thousands of long-haired youths in the West consider it their duty to visit the “Capital of Freedom”. Today, It is one of the most famous resorts in Goa and India with a view to building a better infrastructure and entertainment system. Calangute has secondary education schools viz. Little Flower of Jesus High school, St. Josephs’s High school, Don Bosco High School, and Mark Memorial High School, apart from the Government Primary schools located in Umtavaddo & Naikavaddo.
All the beaches of Goa are sandy. The length of Kalangut beach is about 7 km. Due to strong waves instead of water, the sand is always suspended.
