Location: Dawki, Meghalaya, India

Visit Time: Winter is the best season to enjoy water sports and camping in Dawki. During winter, the temperature drops sharply by November and you have very low temperatures of around 3-4° during the night. Day temperature is quite warmer and the weather remains sunny in winter. November to May would be the best months to visit Dawki. Although it’s frequented by travelers all around the year however the best season to watch crystal clear water is winter and pre-monsoon.

Dawki is a small hamlet, which is located in the Southern part of Meghalaya on the border of India and Bangladesh. It is located at a distance of 95km from Shillong city. This place growing its popularity for the crystal clear water of the Dawki river, which is also known as the Umngot river. Based on the bank of the river, it is a great destination for adventure lovers. It is famous for its suspension bridge over the Dawki River. It was built during British rule in India. Through this bridge, all trade and export-import between India and Bangladesh have taken place till now.

How to reach

By Road: It is not well-connected to the other major cities of India by road. Dawki is 95 km by road from Shillong and 150 km from Guwahati. You may hire a cab from either of these places and reach there easily. From Shillong, it will take around 3 hrs and from Guwahati, you can reach Dawki in almost 6 hrs. So, if you want to reach Dawki an easy way by road, then you’ve to reach Shillong or Guwahati first.
By Train: Railway connectivity is not available to reach Meghalaya. Guwahati railway station is the nearest station and it’s well connected by trains from all the major cities in India. So, if want to visit Dawki by train, you have to take a trip to Guwahati first.
By Air: Dawki has no airport of its own. The nearest airport is located around 35 km away from Dawki & it’s Umroi Airport. Guwahati is the nearest major airport close to Dawki. Direct flights to Guwahati from Kolkata, Delhi, Bagdogra, and Bangkok are available. Tourists wishing to enter from Bangladesh can reach Tamabil and from there take the Dawki-Tamabil highway to enter the city.
