Diglipur Island is located in North Andaman, about 320 kilometers from Port Blair. Diglipur has a total geographical area of about 1,400 square kilometers and is considered the largest inhabited city in the Andaman Islands. Like the other Andamanese, the people living here see themselves as living together as a small India, speaking different Indian languages, and belonging to different religious and cultural beliefs. Most of the population speaks Bengali, Hindi, and Tamil, with many other people also speaking Telugu and Malayalam. They practice agriculture as their main occupation. Diglipur has rice, coconut, areca nuts, and vegetables are grown there and also sells its products in the capital. Other supplies are brought to Diglipur from the capital, Port Blair, so goods and services here can be more expensive than in Port Blair.
