In 1607 A.B, Faridabad was founded by Sheikh Farid. He was a treasurer of Jahangir, with the object of protecting the highway, which passed through the town. It is a project of Pakistani refugee resettlement and light industrial development that was initiated in the city in 1950. Sheikh Farid built a fort, a tank, a mosque, and other things which are now in ruins. Before independence, Faridabad was initially part of the Gurgaon district.
