Sikkim is India’s smallest northeastern state, flanked on all four sides by Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, and West Bengal. Mount Kangchenjunga, the highest mountain in India, is home to the Himalayas and is located in Sikkim. Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. Sikkim became part of India in 1975. Formerly an independent monarchy, little is known of its history other than that it was a base for the Tibetans and the British built this Village as their military base when they settled in Tibet in the 19th century. The effects of this are still alive today in the culture, look and feel of the city. It is dotted with Tibetan monasteries and Tibetan culture. Similar to the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu is a small hill town in structure, a perfect place to relax and connect with nature.
