Sikkim is India’s smallest northeastern state, flanked on all four sides by Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, and West Bengal. Mount Kangchenjunga, the highest mountain in India, is home to the Himalayas and is located in Sikkim. Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. Sikkim became part of India in 1975. Formerly an independent monarchy, little is known of its history other than that it was a base for the Tibetans and the British built this Village as their military base when they settled in Tibet in the 19th century. The effects of this are still alive today in the culture, look and feel of the city. It is dotted with Tibetan monasteries and Tibetan culture. Similar to the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu is a small hill town in structure, a perfect place to relax and connect with nature. This city is a popular base for trekking, attracting trekkers from across India and abroad. Unlike big cities, It has no noise, pollution, and bustle, nor the skyline of tall buildings, but it is equipped with numerous amenities to offer its visitors a healthy experience of mountain life.

By Air: Gangtok has good air connections to some of the major cities in India. The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal, which is about 124 kilometers from Gangtok.

By Rail: The nearest railway station to Gangtok is the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in Siliguri, West Bengal.

By Road: Gangtok is well connected with other cities and places by road. The roads are in good condition except for a few spots. Tourists from Kolkata, Kalim pong, Siliguri, and Darjeeling prefer to go to Gangtok. Private jeeps, buses, and taxis can be hired in Siliguri and Bagdogra.
