Lawngtlai is a beautiful city situated in the state of Mizoram, India. It is the district headquarters of Lawngtlai district in Mizoram. It is also the headquarters of the Lai Autonomous District Council, one of the three autonomous district councils in Mizoram.
It is situated in the southernmost part of the state of Mizoram. On 18th September 1998, it was declared a district. previously it was under the Chhimtuipui District. Lawngtlai has its distinct feature of housing one of the highest minority population concentrated areas in India in the western belt of the district.
There are fabulous places to visit in the city. One of the major landmarks of the city is the Phawngpui, the tallest mountain in the state, and the Phawngpui Peak which is the highest point of the state and is situated within the Phawngpui National park. The famous Ngengpui Wildlife Sanctuary is also located in this city. Standing at a height of 2,157 m above sea level, Phawngpui mountain is one of the most popular tourist spots in the city. The Phawngpui National Park is home to a wide range of birds including the state bird Mrs. Hume’s pheasant, Blyth’s tragopan and falcon, rare animals such as serow, mountain goat, slow loris, Asiatic black bear, and many more. There are some more places to visit in the district. Such as Uiphum, Mullianpui, Simon Wildlife Sanctuary, etc. Those places are also very attractive and close to the culture and history of the city.
