Mahabalipuram is a small town in the southeastern part of Tamil Nadu, spanning the Bay of Bengal and the Great Salt Lake. It is a recognized representative city of our rich Indian culture and heritage. It is mainly a seaport located 58 km from the capital Chennai. Mahabalipuram is a place famous for its temples and monuments, especially the very famous Shore Temple. It consists of three temples built in a single complex built in the 8th century. Another famous temple is the Pancha Rathas. As the name suggests, it is a group of five temples in the shape of chariots. The descent of the Ganges is a huge rock with an open mouth in the form of a sculpture. Some other popular tourist attractions in Mahabalipuram are Arjuna’s Penance, Crocodile Farm, Cave Temple, Indian Shell Museum, and Krishna’s Butterball. There are also countless monoliths, temples, and stone carvings that testify to India’s rich cultural heritage. Although Mahabalipuram is a small suburban town, it is well served by buses and automobiles due to its immense popularity among Indians and even foreigners. These buses depart from different parts of Chennai, Chengal Pattu, and Kanchipuram.
