Pushkar is a city in the district of Ajmer in the northeastern Indian state of Rajasthan. It is located at the shore of the famous Pushkar lake. It has many ghats where pilgrims bathe.
It is a popular pilgrimage site for Sikhs and Hindus. This city has hundreds of temples, including the popular 14th-century Jagatpita Brahma mandir. It is dedicated to the God of creation Lord Brahma. This temple has a distinctive red spire and walls inlaid with pilgrims’ silver coins. Most of the temples of this city are from the 18th century. Many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in this area. The ruined temples were rebuilt later.
This city is also significant for its Gurdwaras for Guru Gobind Singh and Guru Nanak. There is one called Gobind ghat the Sikhs built in memory of Guru Gobind Singh.
A famous annual fair was held in the city called (Pushkar Camel Fair) featuring a trading fete of cattle, camels, and horses. This fair is held over seven days in autumn marking Kartika Purnima according to the Hindu calendar in the month of Kartik (October or November). It attracts tourists a lot.
