Roing

Location: Arunachal Pradesh

Visiting Time: Roing between October and February.

On earth, Roing is a true green sea paradise. It is a wonderful place for economists, zoologists, botanists, and ecologists to travel and live treasures. In fact, it is a virgin natural forest with a unique natural lake in the middle of the desert. The medicinal plant Coptis Teeta(Mishmi Teeta) is an endemic species and Taxus baccata are available here.

The area is also rich in orchid varieties. The main associate tree species are – Terminalia Myriocarpa, Jalauma Phellocarpa, Abizzia Lucida, Abizzia Procera, Abizzia Arunachalensis, Terminalia Bellirica, Terminalia Chebula, Altingia Excelsa, Abizzia Sherriffi, Acacia Caesia, Canarium Strictum, Castanopsis Indica, Bischfia Javanica, Magnolia species, Ailanthus Grandis, Kedia Calycina, Largerstromia Flostregina, Schima Wallichri, Ficus Altissima, Duabanga Grandiflora, Michelai Champaca, etc.

And the common species of mammals, birds, and insects which were recorded in the sanctuary are stated. Such as Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Leopard Cat, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Common Mongoose, Wild Dog, Jackel, fishing cat, Spotted Linsang, Yellow-bellied Weasel, Common Otter, Indian Porcupine, Stumptail Macaque, Burmese Ferret Badger, Malay Treeshrew, Slow Loris, India Elephant, Himalayan Black Bear, Assam Macaque, Sambar, Barking Deer, Hoolock, etc.

Until now 200 species of birds have been identified. Some of the birds from this checklist are stated. Such as Mallard, Large Cormorant, Cotton Teal, Barbet, Temmink’s Tragopan, Monal Pheasant, Japanese Awfinch, Whitnaped Yuhina, Three-Toed Forest Kingfisher, Himalayan Pied Kingfisher, Blue Throated, Silvereared Mesia, Wrenbabbler, Alpine Chough, White Spotted Laughing Thrust, Blue Wing Laughing Thrust, Red Headed Laughing Thrust, Large Niltava, White-Throated Red Start, Spotted Short-Tailed, Great Pied Hornbill, Drongo, Wren, Tibetan Grey-backed Shrike, Green Magpie, Large Racket-Tailed, Black Napped Oriole, Blue Napped Pitta, Long-tailed Broadbill, etc.

How to reach

By Road: One of the best ways to reach Roing is by Road. It is well-connected with all the major cities across Assam & Arunachal Pradesh. Many Arunachal Pradesh State Transport (APST) buses are available via the National highway. The road journey will be breathtaking with beautiful snow-clad mountains.

By Train: Dibrugarh Town Railway Station in Tinsukia is the nearest Railway Station to reach Roing. It is 113 km away from Roing. It has regular train services from the cities like Guwahati, Chennai, and New Delhi. You can hire a taxi, cab or take a bus to reach Roing from the railway station.

By Air/Helicopter: If you want to reach Roing in a short time, you can also take Pawan Hans operated helicopter flights which can be easily availed from the cities of Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Naharlagun. But again all are located in the neighboring state of Assam.
Plane: You can fly into ‘Mohanbari Airport’ or ‘Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport,’ both located in Assam. And then take a taxi or take Arunachal Pradesh State Transport (APSTC) bus service to reach Roing.
