Situated under the state of Mizoram, in India. Serchhip is one of the most attractive tourist destinations among the cities of the state. It is 112 km away from the State capital city of Aizawl. The district covers an area of 1421.60 km². The town of Sercchip is also the administrative headquarters of the district. It was declared as a district on 15 September 1998. Because of the way it was created it includes part of East Lungdar Tehsil and part of Thingsulthliah Tehsil.
The origin of name Serchhip comes from citrus trees which can be found on top of the first hill of the then Serchhip village. The word Serchhip means ‘citrus-on-top’. The district is most famous for being the district with the highest literacy rate in India.
