    Formally known as Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Prateek Sthal, Ambedkar Memorial Park is a public park and memorial in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.  Dedicated to B. R. Ambedkar, the memorial is the 20th-century Indian polymath and the major author of the Indian Constitution. Honoring the lives and memories of Jyotirao Phule, Narayana Guru, Birsa Munda, Shahuji Maharaj, and Kanshi Ram, the memorial was constructed by Mayawati, and the park also has 124 monumental elephants, during her administration when she led the Bahujan Samaj Party, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

    History

    In the year of 1995, the foundation stone of the memorial was first laid which was named Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Udyan earlier. It was renamed the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial,  in the year of 2002,  and development work continued until 2002-03. The park underwent further renovation and development in the year of 2007. Chief Minister Mayawati, it was initially opened to the public on 14 April 2008. Using red sandstone brought from Rajasthan, the entire memorial is built. The largest planned residential colony in India, it is situated in the posh locality of Gomti Nagar. At 7 billion rupees, the cost of the memorial is estimated. Ambedkar Park, its name was changed to the Bhimrao Ambedkar memorial in May 2012.

    The heart of the entire memorial is the construction of the Ambedkar Stupa. Depicting the biography of Ambedkar, the sanctum sanctorum consists of many statues. In opposite directions, there are four doors.  In the shape of a flower bearing four petals, this is an amazing construction. Facing two domes, there is a bronze statue of Ambedkar seated in a chair. At the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, the Ambedkar statue was modeled on the sculpture of Abraham Lincoln. The Sangrahalay (museum) is opposite the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial which is constructed over an area of about 2.5 acres.  On its top, the building has two domes. Large statues of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Shri Narayan Guru, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Shri Kanshiram are contained in them. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Gallery has murals made of bronze, Constructed in an area of 4 acres (16,207 sq.m.).To the memorial guarded by statues of 62 elephants on either side, Pratibimb Sthal is the main entrance The Drashya Sthal offers a vantage point from where the park, shrines, structures, and sites integrate as a view of the whole area, constructed on an 80-foot pyramid type structure on the back of Pratibimb Sthal. From the top of the pyramid, the flow of water entertains visitors.

    By Air: The nearest airport is Lucknow Airport, which is located around 14 km away from the city center. Lucknow can be easily reached by air from anywhere in India. Outside the airport, local taxis are available and anyone can avail of taxis to travel anywhere in the city.

    By Road: Lucknow is connected to major cities of India with a wide road network. The main highways that pass through Lucknow are NH28, NH25, and NH56. Buses for Lucknow are easily available from other nearby cities. One can also hire cabs to reach anywhere in Lucknow from nearby places.

    By Train: The major railway station in Lucknow is the Lucknow Railway Station at Charbagh. It connects Lucknow with many other cities of India via a good number of mail and superfast trains. Passenger trains from nearby cities also ply to and from Lucknow. Several other railway stations like Alamnagar, Gomti Nagar, Aishbagh junction, etc. also serve the city. One can take a taxi to reach anywhere in the city from the station.
