    Bada Bagh temple is situated in the city of Jaisalmer, under the state of Rajasthan India. It is one of the most famous places in the city which is a relic of Rajasthan’s glorious past. This is a primary series of cenotaphs set amidst a garden in the city of Jaisalmer. 

    This place is located about 6 km north of Jaisalmer, known as ‘Big Garden’ is a complex nestled in between Lodhruva and Jaisalmer. It is a garden that holds the cenotaphs of all the Maharajas and other family members of the royal family. That’s why it is so famous among tourists.

    The construction of the Bada Bagh temple was started by Maharawal Jai Singh. He introduced the creation of a dam in the desert as a water tank. Jai Singh was pleased with the unexpected success of this venture. After his death on 21 September 1743, his son Lunkaran built ‘chattri’ in the lake next to this place. It marked a new tradition for the rulers of the Bhatti Dynasty and a new cenotaph was added here to commemorate the memory of each king.

    The Bada Bagh temple is a beautiful creation of architecture. It is located on a small hillock and the entrance to the cenotaphs is at the bottom of the hill. The design of these cenotaphs is stunning. The chhatris of these cenotaphs are the same colors as the landscape around the area.  The bases of chhatris at this place are hexagonal or square. Though the domes are in different shapes and free from the artwork.
