    The Balpakram National park is situated at a distance of 167 km from Tura, in the Southern Hillis under the district of Meghalaya. It lies at an elevation of about 300p feet above sea level. It is one of the most famous parks in the state. This park is well known for its pristine beauty. The meaning of Balpakram is “land of perpetual winds”. This park is blessed with charming scenes.

    This park is home to many rare and extinct species. You can see the Red Panda here which has a small population. There you can also find the Indian Bison, Lesser Panda, and the Stag like Serow. It houses a variety of rare medicinal herbs. Those are known as ‘dikes’ locally. One can also see Wild water buffalo and the rare Golden Cat here. 8 species of cats can be found here including the leopard, tiger, and marbled cat. It is also a shelter for Asian elephants, rare stump-tailed macaques, Wild boars, Samber, Pig-tailed macaques, and barking deer.
