    The magnificent buildings were built by Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III on the bank of the river Vishwamitri.

This ancient Museum was designed by the famous architect R.F. Chisholm. The museum was completed in 1894 and opened to the public and the picture gallery was opened to the public in1921.

    It has a modest Egyptian room with a mummy and an entire floor stuffed with wildlife specimens.

    This ancient museum is exhibited in 28 galleries that represent different types of collections from India, Nepal, Japan, China, Tibet, Egypt, Europe, Rome, and Greece. The museum and the picture gallery have a vast collection of art, ethnology, sculpture, and ethnography. It has a modest Egyptian room with a mummy and an entire floor stuffed with wildlife specimens. In the museum, there is a blue-whale skeleton that is about 22m long. There is a library. It has almost 23,000 books and journals. In the gallery, a visitor will find lovely miniatures and various crews of European masters.

    Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery are open every day of the week. But it is close to the public holidays. The opening time of this place is 10:30 am and the closing time is 5:00 pm.
