This loop is 5 km. ahead of Darjeeling city and located in between Ghoom.On the way to Darjeeling from Siliguri by the famous Toy Train journey, you pass through the Batasia Loop.it is a Windy place.
It is one of the most visited places is Darjeeling. The word Batasia Means airy space. People come to enjoy Its beautiful view. If you haven’t visited it till now, go and visit it, it will be an amazing experience.
The whole view of this loop is Amazing. It is a spiral railway created to lower the gradient of ascent of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in the Darjeeling district and at this point, the track spirals around over itself through a tunnel and over a hilltop. The whole area of this place is neat and clean. The surroundings are also good. There is also an eco garden inside Batasia. It informs you about the Organic Garden and plantations in Darjeeling. Here you find some rare Spices of plants like Gingko Biloba. There is also some silver first, Rhododendrons.
This loop was created by the British to Counter such sharp descent and was Commissioned in 1919 Because it was an Engineering requirement for the toy train to handle a steep gradient. It was considered one of the greatest engineering feats.
