    Among the oldest temples of India that are dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. This temple is located in Warangal. It is an ancient temple that was originally built during the Chalukyan reign in 625 AD, between the city of Warangal and Hanamkonda, located on a top hill, by the side of Bhadrakali Lake. After it was renovated in the 1950s by Sri Ganapathi Shastri and a few other locals, it regained its magnetism. This temple is one of the most popular shrines and is visited by lakhs of devotees every year, although now it bears only a few traces of its glorious past.

    Yet the image of the Goddess is believed to be transformed by the holy mantras into Tripura Sundari, the deity in the temple is called Goddess Bhadrakali, a rare form that signifies the supreme feminine power of the universe. ‘Beauty of the three worlds’ is the meaning of the word Tripura Sundari. As the greatest manifestation of Prakriti, this state comprising of Goddess Kali form is regarded. Bhadrakali Lake, A man-made lake built during Kakatiya’s reign to serve as a source of water for irrigation and other necessities is a captivating feature of this temple.

    Bhadrakali Temple

    Bhadrakali temple is an ancient temple, built in the style of Chalukyan architecture,  which was built to mark their conquest of the Vengi region. A glimpse of the Chalukyan reign is presented by the Skanda Shila statue and the pillars in the temple, while the brilliant craftsmanship of the Kakatiya reign is represented by the intricate carvings on the pillars. Considering Goddess Bhadrakali as their ancestral deity hence Kakatiya Kings contributed to the temple as well. The Bhadrakali Lake was built during the Kakatiya reign. During their rule, a lake connecting the temple was also constructed. However, the importance of the Warangal Bhadrakali temple also lessened, with the fall of the Kakatiya reign.

    Spread around 2 and a half km, this lake is surrounded by hills and dotted with various natural rock formations nearby. Adding to the spiritual aura of the Bhadrakali temple, a  peaceful setting is represented it. There are various other shrines around Bhadrakali Temple Warangal, that are worth visiting.     By Air: To other major cities of the country, Warangal is not well connected via regular flights. At a distance of 132 km, the nearest airport is Begumpet Airport located in Hyderabad. From the airport, you can hire a cab or rickshaw to reach your destination.

    By rail: From other major cities of the country, you can easily get regular trains to Warangal. The nearest railway station is Warangal railway station.

    By road: From the bus stand, regular services of state roadways and privately owned buses of the city are available. With important cities and states, roads are also well connected. To reach your desired destination, you can also hire rented cars or taxis.
