    Cherai Beach has a lot of history.  This beach was originally discovered by foreigners.  A beach called Vypin Beach was created or discovered in a major flood around 1341.  So this beach had 2 parts.  Part of which is Cherai Beach.  It is the northern part of Vypin Beach. These beaches were under the British, Dutch, and Portuguese when they ruled India.  Due to this, there are several forts around these beaches.  Which were used to protect them.
