    Chetlat Island is 56 km north of Amini and 432 km away from Kochi. It lies between 11° 41′ and 11° 43′ N latitude and 72° 41′ and 72° 43′ E longitude having an area of 1.40 sq km the eastern of the island, there is a wide belt of the l delta formed by storms, which broadens at the north and covers the whole southern end of the island.

    Chetlat Island is the northernmost inhabited island. Coir twisting is the chief occupation of the people here, and The coconut yield is poor and income is meager. Manufacture of mats and weaving of coconut leaves are the spare time industries here and this island suffered a great deal at the hands of the Portuguese in the 16th century. Boat building was a flourishing industry at the beginning of the 20th century when the vessels needed by the Amindivi islanders were built here.

    According to history, Chetlat Island had undergone cruel treatment from the Portuguese pirates in the 16th century and A huge number of natives were killed and others imprisoned. Coconut trees are plenty here and You will find Cheerani Paruthi (A species of cotton tree), jack fruit trees, Tauranga (Drumstick k), and also Coir twisting and mat weaving are the people’s common vocations here.
