Sangam, the confluence of the Indus, and Zanskar Rivers are one of the most arresting moils of nature in Ladakh. There is a vantage point at about 35 km from Leh near the village of Nimmu, nestled between the stunning mountains of the cold desert, on the Leh to Srinagar Highway, where one can witness the picturesque Sangam of these opulent rivers.

    Attraction

beautiful pic of Confluence of Indus and ZanskarDominating a valley – it is just mind-blowing to watch a stunning sunset merge with the waters of an ocean or the myriad colors of flowers.  Including the Padar Island in Indonesia or the Dawki river of Meghalaya and the seven-colored sands of Chamarel will no doubt amaze you. Each of the places will excite you more than the other. A distinct bluish-green river flowed between two mountains to merge with the greenish river. Further, its vibrancy was enriched by the textured mountains around this magical confluence of colors.  Making the silence of the land so endearing, the blue skies added to the aura. The fluttering prayer flags added a serenity along the vantage point. To leave everything and sit down to stare at the enchanting landscape, the whole atmosphere urges its visitor.

    History

In recent years, this confluence has been one of the hot tourist spots near Leh. If you are traveling from Srinagar to Leh, you cannot miss the Indus Zanskar Sangam. There is also no need to hire a special taxi to visit this place in Ladakh. Because whenever you come to Leh from Kargil, it can be easily covered.

    Inside/Outside Views

inside view of the ConfluenceWhile the other is Indus, the Bluish green one is the Zanskar.  During winter, the Zanskar river changes to green one while Indus becomes bluish and During summer, it is even bluer. The visitors also observe that it is partly freezing at the corners. In Summer – the Zanskar river flows faster while in Winter, Indus tends to flow more quickly, another interesting seasonal phenomenon of these two rivers. It is natural that Zanskar slows down as it tends to freeze in winter. On the other hand, Indus does not freeze completely but only carries ice blocks
