    Moti Daman Fort has two beautiful lighthouses that stand as a testament to Daman‘s rich Portuguese heritage. Daman Lighthouse is located in the vicinity of Moti Daman Fort in Daman which covers an area of about 30,000 square meters and has ten bastions and two impressive gateways. The presence of deep moats indicates the importance of protecting the fort from enemy attacks. The fort is polygonal in structure when considered as a whole. Visitors can only see the old lighthouse, which is only one story tall. Entry to the New Lighthouse is prohibited for security reasons.

    History

Both are in the grounds of Moti Daman Fort near Daman Ganga Bay. One of these is called the Puran Lighthouse, the other is New Lighthouse. The old lighthouse built by the Portuguese is an important tourist attraction in the region. It has a revolving tower, and a 204-metre diameter lantern house is also built on its summit. For safety reasons, new lighthouses require proper permits for citizens. You can reach its top by a curved staircase. A bird’s eye view of the sea is seen from the top of the lighthouse.

    By Air: The nearest airports to Daman are Mumbai (170 km) and Surat (90 km). Flights to Mumbai are easily available from all major airports in the country. Surat is connected by flight from Delhi. The nearest international airport is Mumbai. From the airport, one can hire a taxi to reach his desired place. 

    By Rail: The nearest railway station to Daman is Vapi, which is about 12 km away.  It is located on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route of the Western Railways and is about 170 km from Mumbai and 90 km from Surat. Major Delhi-Mumbai and Mumbai-Ahmedabad bound trains stop at this station. Travelers traveling to Daman by train can get down at Vapi and reach Daman by local bus or taxi, otherwise from the station, one can hire a taxi to reach his desired place. 

    By Road: Daman is easily accessible by road and is connected to some major cities nearby with a well-maintained road system. Vapi, at a distance of 12 km, is located on the Mumbai – Ahmedabad National Highway and is easily connected to Daman by road. The city is located 170 km from Mumbai, 360 km from Ahmedabad, 768 km from Diu, 110 km from Surat, and 300 km from Vadodara.
