    In Diu, 1.5 km from Diu Bus Station, Diu Museum is a prominent museum located. Located near St. Paul’s Church, it is one of the museums in the Union Territory of Diu – Daman and one of the must-visit places in Diu city. Statues of Catholic saints, inscriptions made by ancient rulers, and other sculptures are the main emphasis of the types of items you will find in it. The architecture of the Giza building was Gothic, one of the environments, and it was not truly renovated. The walls, whitewashed, still bear traces of Portuguese period frescoes on them.

    The museum was established in St. Thomas Church; hence it is called St. Thomas Church Museum. The church was built in 1598 by Bishop D. It was built by order of Alexios Menezes and was the first parish church of Diu. Located on a raised platform within the Diu Fort, the church was built in the Gothic architectural style. This building comes under various functions like an orphanage, nursing home, police station and before independence it used to house the Angolan battalion. It was abandoned for many years after independence. The church was converted into a museum in 1992. After the building was converted into a museum, the church no longer held prayer services, although an annual mass was held on All Saints’ Day, 1 November. St. Thomas Museum houses numerous stone inscriptions of ancient rulers, ancient statues, multicolored fountains, wood carvings and statues, shadow clocks and various other important artefacts, which give us a peek into the history of Diu and its past when it was colonized by the Portuguese. 400-year-old wooden and marble statues of St also housed in the museum. The museum was set up by Phulkari, a retired merchant navy captain, who collected a variety of rocks during his lifetime and is now housed in this museum for public viewing. The museum is considered to be the largest shell museum in Asia, with 2500 to 3000 types of seashells on display, it is claimed to be a museum in the world where tourists closely observe and study the rock through scanning glasses so that they can see the peculiarities of each stone.

    By Air: Diu Airport is the best way to reach Diu. This is the fastest way. If you are wondering how to reach Diu quickly, there is no better way than flight. Air India operates 4 times a week flights from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport to Diu Airport. These flights operate on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. So, plan your Diu trip according to the flight schedule. Alternatively, there is a helicopter service that operates between Daman and Diu – the two Union Territories, thus cutting the 13-hour road journey into an hour of helicopter travel. Chopper is available from Monday to Saturday and costs around Rs 3000 for one person. You can hire a taxi to reach your desired place from the airport.

    By Rail: There is no railway station near Diu. The nearest railway station to Diu is Veraval, which is about 90 km from Diu by road. It has rail connectivity with Ahmedabad, Mumbai and other nearby cities. It is a budget-friendly way to travel to Diu. Somnath Express (09252, 19221, 19222) and Veraval Express (16334) are some of the popular trains that reach Veraval. Hire a taxi to reach your desired place from the station.

    By Road: There are 24 bus departures and arrivals from Diu that you can choose from. By bus, Diu is connected to Gujarat by a bridge. Thus, it is quite well connected to all major cities like Veraval, Rajkot, Porbandar, Daman etc. Gujarat state buses, as well as private buses, make travelling to Diu even easier. One can easily reach Diu by hiring a cab or taxi.
