Eden Beach in Chinna Veerampattinam near Puducherry has become the first beach in the union territory to receive the coveted ‘Blue Flag’ certificate from the Denmark-based Foundation for Environment Education (FEE). Blue flag beaches are awarded globally for being the cleanest beaches, which are environmentally friendly and have all the facilities for tourists. In India, only ten beaches are given the Blue Flag tag; Eden Beach in Pondicherry is one of them. So, getting the blue tag for Eden Beach is considered a proud moment for Pondicherry residents.

The arch welcomes you at the entrance to Eden Beach. It was recently built with sit-outs. You can enjoy the view of the beach in the morning or in the evening from the arch. Eden Beach has an 800-meter-long safe swimming zone where lifeguards will monitor you. The beach has a greywater treatment plant and a solid waste management plant. This beach has washrooms, bathrooms, and toilets for tourists. They have the same facilities for disabled people that you don’t find at other beaches. Since it is an eco-friendly and sustainable beach, they have focused on it very significantly. From toilets to dustbins, they have tried to use bamboo wherever possible. Even umbrella huts were made from natural products like coconut thatch. They were very keen not to disturb the environment and at the same time provide the necessary facilities for the tourists. Solar panels were installed on Eden Beach to reduce dependence on electricity from other sources. All in all, it will be a different experience for the tourists visiting here. As far as possible, stop littering and leave your footprints on the beach, nothing more.
