    Estimated Visiting Time: 2-3 hours

Ooty’s pride lies in the Government Rose Garden, which is part of an elite club of 35 rose gardens from around the world that have received the Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia from the World Federation of Rose Societies. With over twenty thousand varieties of roses, the rose garden is one of the most beautiful and well-tended gardens in the country, or perhaps the world. The climate in Ooty is ideal for plants that have a long flowering period.

    Attraction

A beautiful site that occupies a considerable area on top of a hill overlooking downtown. If it weren’t for the incessant screaming from the streets below it would have been the ideal place to sit, relax and admire the beautiful array of roses and other plants. Great photo spots around the garden. Some of the rose bushes had funny names and others were named after people.

    History

The Rose Park was established in Vijayanagaram, Ooty City to commemorate the Centennial Flower Show at Government Botanic Gardens, Udagamandalam in May 1995. The flowers are arranged on five curved terraces spread over four acres. The garden is maintained by the Ministry of Horticulture of Tamil Nadu.

    Inside/Outside Views

    Government Rose Garden

Beautiful rose gardens on the terraces. A must for visitors. There are three levels to cover. Hiking shoes are recommended as there is plenty of walking and climbing to cover all scenarios. And if roses could talk, they would tell you stories about their birth and death. A feast for the eyes.
