    Situated in the Kutch district, under the state of Gujarat, in Western India Kalo Dungar or Black Hill is the highest point of Kutch. Its height of it is 462m or 1,516 ft. From here a traveler can have a panoramic view of the Great Rann of Kutch. As it is near the Pakistan border, there is an Army post at the top. There is a 400-year-antique Dattatreya temple which is likewise very famous. Kalo Dungar is a magnetic hill popular for optical illusion, where vehicles seem to defy gravity and roll up the slope. This is a must-visit place in Kutch. Whenever you are visiting Kutch, you may not miss this place.

    History

    Many tales and legends are associated with the history of Kalo Dungar. One story says that Dattatreya, the three-headed incarnation of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva in the same body, stopped here, and he noticed many hungry jackals and offered them to eat his body. When the jackals started eating, his (Dattatreya) body regenerate automatically. The practice of feeding the jackals is still practiced by the people, the priest of the temple. They prepared food and serve it to jackals every morning and evening. There is a bhojnalaya that serves meals free of cost.

    In one word, Kalo dungar is a majestic place. As it is the highest point of Kutch you can have an excellent panoramic view of “The Great Rann of Kutch”. Though it is called a black hill, the color of this hill is not black. It is quite brown on one side and on the other side which gives you the view of the White desert and it has blue shades. Kalo dungar or Black hill Anti-Gravity slope is a hill road that has the optical illusion of a gravity hill. Where the vehicle seems to defy gravity and roll from downslope to upslope. Here, our vehicle will move up the slope at the time, when your ignition is off.

    By Air: The place Kalo dungar is about 90 km away from Bhuj. Bhuj is well connected to the other cities of the country by air. Bhuj Airport is 4 km away from the city. From, the airport you can hire any kind of local transport to go to Kalo Dungar.

    By Rail: The Bhuj railway station is about 87 km away from Kalo dungar. If you are going there by train then it is the best option. This railway station is well connected with the other cities of Gujarat as well as India. Local transports are easily available at the station. You can hire them to reach your destination.

    By Road: Traveling to Kutch by road is an amazing and fascinating experience. The road service of Kutch is pretty good. You can go there by road without any doubt.
