Khecheopalri Lake, also known as Kha-Chot-Palri (meaning Padmasambhava’s Heaven), is a lake in the West Sikkim district of the Northeastern Indian state of Sikkim, situated 147 kilometers west of Gangtok.

Khecheopalri Lake is distinct from the others. This is one of the holiest places in the country. The purity of this lake has made it a pilgrimage destination for the inhabitants of this region. The lake is part of a famous Buddhist pilgrimage including Yuksom city. Khecheopalri Lake is recognized as a wish fulling lake in this area. If one makes a wish in front of this tranquil lake, the desire will be granted. The loveliest aspect of the lake is that it is pristine, raw, and beautiful in its original state.

    Attraction

The name Khecheopalri means ‘heavenly domicile of Padmasambhava,’ a Buddhist monk from the eighth century who is often acknowledged as the second Buddha. Despite the fact that the lake is surrounded by thick forests, there really are no leaves on the bottom. This is due to the avifauna swooping down and clearing the lake of leaves.

Along the wooden jetty, prayer wheels lead to the bank of Khecheopalri Lake. Countless Tibetan prayer flags swirl in the breeze, causing anyone to feel even though both have entered a mystical realm. Khecheopalri Lake is also a Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage destination. This lake is encircled by a plantation of broad-leaved temperate trees and bamboo, making it an ideal relaxation place for Buddhist pilgrims.

Khecheopalri Lake is a birdwatcher’s utopia in contrast to being a pilgrimage place. During the migratory season, the Himalayan Peregrine, bar-headed geese, and golden Oriole, among others, will be seen.
