Located in the eastern part of Lawngtlai, adjacent to the Murlen National park, Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 80 square kilometers and is a very famous tourist spot in Mizoram. It is very close to the capital city of the state. Different kinds of wildlife animals and birds like- Tigers, Leopards, Barking Deer, Hoolock, Sambar, and Gibbons can be found here. You will also find varieties of trees, ferns, and lichen with thick undergrowth here. The place is full of greenery and the view of this place is stunning. If you are in Mizoram you must visit this place.

The main attraction of this sanctuary is the variety of animals and birds in the place. You can find many rare birds and wildlife here and have a look at them from a short distance. It is like heaven to the wildlife lover. The environment of the place is so calm and pleasing. The scenery of the place is like a treat to the eyes and the cool breeze of the forest will refresh your mind.

History

Langtang Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area. This is an alpine forest that contains the second-highest peak in Mizoram. It is especially a conservation interest in rare species of birds. In 1999, it was declared a protected area and a national wildlife sanctuary by the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests on 31 May 2001.

Inside/Outside Views

Covered in a lush green forest the Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary has one of the highest peaks in Mizoram with a height of 2,141 m. The sanctuary has an area of 60 sq km and it is like a paradise for birdwatchers as it shelters a diverse species of avifauna. Many important birds such as Mrs. Hume’s pheasant, great Indian hornbill, wreathed hornbill, pied hornbill, Khaleej pheasant, and white-cheeked partridge can be found here. Furthermore, you can see tigers, leopards, sambars, barking deer, Himalayan black bears, giant squirrels, leaf monkeys, and many more animals. Moreover, the sanctuary is full of high ranges running from north to south covered by greenery all over the year.

How to Reach

By Air: Nearest major airport to Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is Shillong. Which is well connected with the other major cities of India. After reaching the airport you can hire any local transport to reach your destination.

By Rail: Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a distance of about 200 kilometers from Aizawl. The nearest rail station to this place is Silchar, which is 185 kilometers away from Aizawl.

By Road: Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is 200km away from Aizawl the capital city of Mizoram. Which has a well-constructed road service. You will get many buses to reach the city. And from there you have to hire a taxi or a cab to reach your destination or you can take a bus also.
