Lodi Era Baoli (Dwarka Baoli) is one of the historical stepwell, which is discovered in Dwarka city, Delhi. it is also known as Loharehri Baoli. This place is small but good to see. It’s good to see the Lodhi era Babli in midst of Dwarka depicting the rich cultural heritage of India.

History

There is a small story behind this place. Mainly It was constructed for the people of Loharehri village by the Sultans of the Lodi Dynasty in the early 16th century. At present Dwarka stands where the Loharehri village once stood. Then, It was hidden by a large group of Peepal trees and covered by thick undergrowth. And it seems to have aided in its relative obscurity. Therefore it is mentioned in Maulvi Zafar Hasan’s 1910 Monuments list, which says that it was not very deep and had 22 steps. Now it is under restoration by the State archeological department, this work will be taken up by INTACH Delhi Chapter.

Inside/Outside Views

Actually, it is a historical place. Overall, the structure shows, the Lodi era architecture with prominent arches along the steps, and the stepwell is constructed using rubble masonry, common in monuments of that period, and the steps, two levels of arches are clearly visible. Then, the water level receded leaving the well dry.
