    The bequeathal of the village of Longkhum is “Your soul stays back on your first visit. You have to come back to regain your soul” –which is an Ao Village situated Southwest of Mokokchung at an altitude of 1846 meters. During the Head-Hunting Era, popularly called the ‘Ao- Funemro’ meaning the Van-Guard Village of the Ao Country and strategically commands a view of the surrounding hills and valleys, It is the highest altitude Village of the Ao Region. It shares boundaries with the Lotha Villages in the West and Sumi Villages in the South and is the largest village,area-wise. It was believed by the Ao’s that for the spirit of the dead on their onward journey to paradise, Longkhum is the resting place.

    Attraction

    Mata Kimong: While you’re in Longkhum Village, one of the most popular places to visit is Mata Yimkong. It is an amazing hilltop. With a backdrop of the mountain ranges, you can catch glimpses of fertile farms and undulating ranch lands.

    Imkongmeren Memorial Site: You can also pay a visit to one of the earliest Naga freedom fighters and the first Vice President of the Naga Nationalist Group – NNC, ‘Memorial Site of Imkongmeren’ – Naga National Council.  In the village, It is one of the favorite photography sites where one can have a panoramic view of the Doyang River.

    Monza Ki – Eagle‘s Eyrie: located at a high precipice where eagles have nestled for decades.  Eagles are the manifestations of the spirits of the dead, according to Ao Mythology.

    Rate Long: “Living Stone” which is Unexplored and unknown to many.

    Fosen Ki:  Another popular site is the Fosen Ki or Rock Caves.

    Observatory Majang: The Longlangba is the man-made majiang or observatory point, a little further down below, where one can have a beautiful view over the lofty hills with a backdrop of the Doyang River.

    Longlangba or Stone Bridge, a unique geological formation consisting of a stone ridge, at Longkhum Village, Nagaland.

    Longkhum is also called the ‘Vegetable Capital’ of Nagaland in modern times. It was recorded that farmers produce a total of approximately 32 MT of Small Potatoes,  230 MT of Tomato, 33 MT of Chilly, and 71 MT of Cabbage, during the harvest season. The village leads in the production of Tomatoes which is a main commercial crop for the area and neighboring districts like Kohima and Dimapur and even to the state of Assam the crop is also exported. With so much to offer to the Nature & Adventure Lover with beautiful Trekking Trails leading to places of tourist interest, Longkhum is one of the favorite Tourist Destination Villages of Nagaland.

    How to Reach

    By Air: At Assam, Jorhat, the nearest airport from Mokokchung is located. From the airport to the Mokokchung district headquarter is at a distance of 112 km.  From many major cities of India, there are daily flights to this airport. Next is the airport in Dimapur, Nagaland airport, which is located at a distance of 212 km from the town, of Mokokchung. This airport is well connected with various cities in the country like New Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, and is also the only airport in the state of Nagaland. You can travel by air to Jorhat and take a hired taxi or daily Tata Sumo services to visit Mokokchung.

    By Rail: From  Mokokchung District, Assam, Mariani Junction is the nearest railhead.  From the Mokokchung district headquarter, it is set roughly at a distance of 86.4 km.

    By Road: If one prefers to take the journey from Dimapur  There are plenty of Buses both available day and night in shared Tata Sumo services to Mokokchung.This will take time of around  6 to 8 hours at most probably. From Guwahati to Mokokchung town and vice versa, daily direct night bus services of Blue Hills and Network Travels are also available.
