    Patwon Ki Haveli is a unique creation of Architecture. It is situated in the golden city of Jaisalmer, under the state of Rajasthan, in India. This is also called the Mansion of Brocade Merchants. It has great significance in the history of Jaisalmer. This is a combination of five Havelis within the complex. Which is the largest of this kind of Havelis in Jaisalmer and the state of Rajasthan.

    You can see several balconies with intricate carvings, and windows at first glance. Locally it is called Kothari’s Patwa Haveli. It gives a glimpse into the royal lifestyle of the Patwa family. This historical place is one of the three Havelis that are deemed impressive in Jaisalmer.

    The Haveli is beautifully decorated with exquisite wall paintings, intricate balconies, arches, gateways, and magnificent mirror works on the walls.

    History

    The huge Patwon Ki Haveli was built by Guman Chand Patwa in the early 1800s. He was an affluent merchant from Jaisalmer. They were one of the famous gold and silver embroidery thread dealers of the city. 

    It is also said that the Patwa family was involved in smuggling opium illegally. Guman Chand Patwa the owner of the haveli wanted to build one haveli in Jaisalmer and the construction started in 1805. As time progressed he made more profit and then decided to build five separate Havelis in the same complex. It took about 60 years to finish the construction of this huge haveli.

    Patwon ki Haveli or Kothari’s Patwa Haveli is a 5-story Rajputana haveli. It is made in the traditional Jaisalmer style of architecture, made of yellow sandstone, and has intricate detailing. 

    The mansion on the ground floor of this palace is the largest of all of them. The interior of these Havelis is so fascinating and eye-catching. All Havelis are decorated beautifully with different kinds of patterns carved into the sandstone. There are a total of 60 traditional Jharokhas and each has ornately carved stone frames and latticework which makes this haveli more attractive.

    By air: The nearest airport to Patwon ki Haveli is Jaisalmer airport. It is located at a distance of 14.2 km from the haveli. This airport is well connected with the other major cities of India. Local transport can be easily found at the airport. By hiring them one can easily reach the palace.

    By train: The city of Jaisalmer can be easily reached by train. The nearest railway station to Patwon Ki Haveli is the Jaisalmer railway station. It is situated at a distance of 2.3 km away from the palace. This railway station is also well connected with other major cities of the country.

    By Road: You can find local transport at the airport that can take you to the lake.
