    Chunnu Hot Springs Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park have recently been added as tourist attractions in Darjeeling, a hill town in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a showpiece to lure people to Darjeeling after political agitation in the 1980s disrupted tourism. There is another rock garden in Darjeeling known as Sir John Anderson Rock Garden, which is part of Lloyd’s Botanical Gardens. The garden is about 10 kilometers from Darjeeling. While proceeding from the city along Hill Cart Road, take a right turn before reaching Jhum. The road descends rapidly into the valley. Along with sharp bends, there are scenic views at many points.     History

    Built by the Gorkha Hill Council Tourism Department, it was inaugurated by GNLF supremo Subhash Ghisingh. In the conventional sense, Rock Garden is not one. A multi-level picnic ground surrounding a natural waterfall, its appeal lies in “a kind of roadside facility but with a little more concrete.” The garden offers a beautiful view of the mountain stream over the rocks along the slope, with flower gardens and seating on different levels. There is also a small lake. Lots of tourists, tea stalls, and snack kiosks have sprung up.

    How to Reach

    By Air: Bagdogra, 90 km (via NH 110) from Darjeeling, is the nearest airport connected by flights to major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, and Guwahati. One can hire a taxi from the airport to reach the place he desires.

    By Rail: Apart from Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Station (88 km from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station), the two nearest railway stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri. These railway stations have direct rail connections with Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, and other major cities of India. One can reach his desired place easily using any vehicle. 

    By Road: The main access to Darjeeling by road is via Siliguri, 77 km. (via NH 55), which is connected to all major cities in India. Bus services are available from Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand, Siliguri. Smaller vehicles are also available for seat sharing/hire from airports, railway stations, and motor syndicates/police motor stands. Pre-paid taxi stands can also be availed from NJP Railway Station and Bagdogra Airport. The four routes from Siliguri to Darjeeling are: i) Tyndharia-Kurseong route ii) Dudhia-Mirik route iii) Rohini route iv) Pankhabari.
