    Sidi Saiyyed mosque is an extraordinary and unique creation of architecture. Which is located in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, India. This is locally known as Sidi Sayyid ni Jali Mosque. It is one of the most attractive places in Gujarat. It is mostly famous for its jails especially the jali named- ‘Tree of life Jali’.     History

    Beautiful design at Sidi Saiyyed Mosque.

    One of the most famous places in Gujarat, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is an architectural legacy of the African diaspora in India. This beautiful mosque was built between 1572-and 73 Ad by Shaykh Sayyid al-Habshi Sultani or Sidi Saiyyed during the reign of Sultan Mahmud III. This was the last year before the Mughals conquered Gujarat. Sidi Saiyyed was an Abyssinian Saint who served in Ahmed Shas’s army. He was well known as a nobleman for helping poor people and he had a large collection of books. This mosque was used as a Government office during the British era. The jail tree of life becomes an iconic symbol for the city of Ahmedabad. The Indian Institute of management adopted this as its logo. In 1880 paper casts of the carved screen were taken and two wooden models were made for the museum of Kensington and New York.

    The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is a great piece of architecture. The mosque is built with yellow sandstone in Indo-Islamic architecture style. The front side of the mosque is quite simple with two minarets on the sides and the baking side has wonderful jalis. There is a small pond and a garden inside the Mosque area. There are eight arched windows which are decorated with stone carved intricate jalis. When the mosque was getting completed, the Mughals conquered Gujarat and the last window was left without a jail. This jali was made so that light and air can come inside the mosque.

    The mosque opens every single day of the week. It opens at 7:00 am and the closing time is 6:00 pm.

    Entry & Others Fees

    A visitor does not need to pay any fee to visit the Mosque. The entry fee is free in the historical Mosque. But you may not visit the mosque during prayer masses, especially on Friday like any other mosque. Women are not allowed to enter the prayer hall of the mosque.

    By Air: Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International Airport is located 8.6 km away from Sidi Saiyyed Mosque. It is the nearest airport to the Mosque. Which is well connected to the other major cities of India. From the airport, you can take any local transport to go to your destination.

    By Train: Ahmedabad Junction railway station is located at a distance of 2.4km from the Mosque. Under the national railway circuit, it is well connected to the other cities of Gujarat and also the major cities of the country. From the station, you can easily go to the mosque by hiring a cab or a taxi.

    By Road: Gujarat has a very good developed road network in India. The city of Ahmedabad is well connected with the other cities of the country. So, one can easily go there by bus or via private vehicle.
