    Siyot Caves or Katehswar Buddhist Caves are one of the most famous and historical places in the district of Kutch, under the state of Gujarat, India. It is situated near the village called Siyot village in the Lakhpat Taluka of Kutch. It is the most visited place in Kutch.

    Siyot caves are the caves of Buddhists. Which can be concluded based on the Brahmi inscription.

    Siyot caves are one of the oldest caves in India. These caves are five rock-cut caves. The main caves have an east-facing sanctum ambulatory and space division that suggests a Shiva temple. Siyot caves are the caves of Buddhists. Which can be concluded based on the Brahmi inscription. The other caves are simple single cells and probably part of eight Buddhist caves situated near the mouth of the Indus River as reported by Xuanzang in the seventh century. As per local peoples’ belief, these caves were used by dacoits to hide things that they looted from the people in the past.

    In 1988-89’s excavation clay seals engraved with Buddha images in various mudras and seals engraved with late Brahmi and Devanagari inscriptions were recovered. Copper rings, Gadhaiya coins, terracotta Nandi with bell and Chail, and different types of earthenwares like Surahi were also found. It is said that the site was occupied by Shaivaites around the twelfth or thirteenth century. After the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, this site was repaired.
