The Srimanthi Bai Government Memorial Museum, also known as the Bejai Museum, is located just one kilometer east of the Bijai KSRTC bus stop. The Bejai Museum houses a variety of antiquities. Established in 1960, the museum displays wood carvings of deities such as Bhairava and Hanuman, s. XIII stone sculptures, porcelain, and a striking bronze bell with a miniature Lakshmi shrine. It also includes art materials, archaeology, ethnology, palm leaf photographs, paintings on paper, manuscripts, sculptures, oil paintings, metal objects, and manuscripts on paper.

    Attraction

The museum had a strange sense of timelessness. The stone inscriptions, statues, and cannons outside bore no dates or names. The paintings in the second room looked very recent and were dated ‘modern’. I noticed that this was a museum but also a gallery. Like all museums, they want to give a great picture of the history of their city. This museum assures us that it is definitely run by the Karnataka government.

    History

Most of the collections were made by Colonel V.R Mirajkar. He was a Medical Officer in Lahore during World War II in the British Indian Army. The museum was his home, designed and built to almost the same plan as the building structures in Milan, Italy, in 1935, and looking like a boat The house later became the Karnataka government in 1955[2] with the entire collection of antiques and contemporary masterpieces donated during her voyages in and out of India. Later it was converted into a museum and named in honor and memory of his mother Srimanthi Bhai. It houses a collection of antiques and historical collections showing the culture and way of life of the civilization and the arts of the past times. and Crafts.

    Inside/Outside Views

The museum is located in Bejai in central Mangalore. Regularly referred to as the Seemanthi Bai Government Museum, it is the city’s only exhibition hall. Celebrated around the world for providing a link between contemporary Indian history and the 16th century, the historic center houses treasures of foreign and ancient coins. Featuring coins from the British East India Company and Pakistan, as well as snappy compositions, the gallery offers a glimpse into India’s history and heritage. Named after the mother, Seemanthi Bai, of an officer, V.R. Mirajkar, from the British Raj, the exhibition hall houses a large number of copper metal symbols, statues, lights, and engravings. The 1624 AD verse engraving by Keladi Venkatappa Nayaka is the landmark of the historic center. Light stands and teapots from Kashmir, Lahore, and other places are also on display in the exhibition hall.
