    Vembanad lake is a major tourist spot in Kerala. It is not only one of the largest lakes in Kerala but also one of the longest lakes in India. The area of the lake is 2033 square kilometers. Vembanad lake has three names in three different places. Punnamada Lake in Kuttanad, Kochi Lake in Kochi, and Vembanad lake in Kottayam.

    It is one of the most attractive places in the town.The Vembanad lake plays an important role in ecology and livelihood activities as well. The lake has large numbers of waterfowl in India. It is a perfect home for both various fishes and migrant birds. 

    Moreover, rice farming, fish farming, tourism, coir retting, and lime shell collection have developed around this lake.

    The confluence of six rivers is found as the source of Vembanad lake. The six rivers are Achankovil River, Manimala River, Meenachil River, Muvattupuzha River, Pamba River, and Periyar River

    Vembanad lake has a dark history. The history of drownings that have turned up over the past years. In spite of this history, Vembanad plays an important role not only in Kerala but also in India.
