Shillong Peak is the highest peak in Meghalaya and is placed at an altitude of 1,965 m or 6,446 feet. According to the local people, the patron deity “‘Leishyllong” resided at the hilltop and protected the city from all evil powers. There is a sacred spot at the top of Shillong Peak which is dedicated to U Shulong and special rituals are organized here every year each spring to honor the spirit of U Shulong.

It gives a 360-degree view of the whole city of Shillong. It is surrounded by waterfalls, the Himalayan Range, Bangladesh, and the lush green scenario. There is a high tower with a telescope at the peak. It also features a radar station of the Air Force of India. Travelers need to carry and show their original ID cards and surrender their cameras at the check post, due to security reasons at the airbase. As this place is controlled by the Indian Air Force, foreigners are not allowed here.
