Bilaspur is also known as the commercial center and festival city of the northeastern state of Chhattisgarh. The High Court of Chhattisgarh has declared Bilaspur district as the law capital of the state. Although known as a business hub, it is an important city for Indian Railways. Not only that, NTPC‘s largest power plant is at Sipa in Chhattisgarh which transmits power to Delhi through the longest HVDC line. This city is famous for its fragrant paddy, dubraj rice, bea kosa silk, tasar silk, etc. It is one of the 100 smart cities in India. It is known from history that the Kalachuri dynasty of Ratanpur once ruled the city of Bilaspur. However, the city became very important as a Maratha official started living there. When the town of Bilaspur was under the rule of the Vosles of Nagpur, there were zamindars and subedars like Bajir Khan, Sao, Akbar Khan, and others. It is famous for its ancient temples and historical sites. Sonamuda is an interesting valley in this town situated on the banks of the river Arpa. Various mouth-watering foods are available here such as gulgula, bhajiya, thetrikhurmi, rice roll, chila, fara, angakar roti, dooboraj rice, airsa. Bilaspur feels quite cold in winter and very hot in summer. The temperature in winter is 4 degrees Celsius and in summer it is 48 degrees Celsius. This has many government and private hospitals and nursing homes. All in all, Bilaspur is a city of archeological monuments.
