Lachung is one of the most beautiful villages in the valleys of North Sikkim. Perched at an elevation of 8,610 feet, it is at a distance of 120 km from Gangtok and is frequented by travelers wishing to visit the Yumthang, Katao, and Yumasamdong areas of North Sikkim’s mountains, dazzling waterfalls, and sparkling streams, Lachung was created by Joseph Dalton Hooker in his definitive TheHimalayan Journal, (1855) described it as the “most picturesque town in Sikkim”. A small monastery adorning a lonely hill is a perfect place for meditation. In winter the whole valley looks completely different when it is covered by a thick layer of snow. Lachung has a small market, but due to the influx of tourists, several small and medium-sized hotels have sprung up.
