Lonavala is a hill station surrounded by green valleys in Western India near Mumbai. It is about 40 miles west of modern-day Pune city and 60 miles east of Mumbai. It is known for its production of the hard candy chikki and is also home to IWS Shivaji which is the Indian Navy’s Premier Technical Training Institute. The name Lonavala is derived from the words ‘lens which means caves and ‘avl’ which means series that means a series of caves which refers to the many caves close to there like Karla caves, Bhaja Cave, and Bedsa.
