Famous for its Sambalpuri sari, This district is the western part of Odisha state. The district is surrounded by the Deogarh district to the east, Bargarh districts to the west, Jharsuguda district to the north, and Sonepur and Angul districts to the south. Sambalpur district has a history of events including the Indian freedom struggle representing different sectors of society. Sambalpur is mentioned in the Book of Ptomely as Sambalaka in the river Manada. This district was later divided into four separate districts.
