    History

The Cooch Behar State Railway was built on a 2 ft 6 in(762mm). It was a narrow-gauge railway from Geetadaha on the Eastern Bengal Railway to Jainti in 1901. This line was crossed through Alipurduar. In 1910, it was converted to a 1000 mm gauge. Because of the partition of India in 1947, the railway links with Assam and the Indian part of North Bengal. Then, the railway, which passed through the eastern part of Bengal, was completely cut off from the rest of India. The Assam railway link was granted on 26 January 1948 to construct a 229-kilometre long (142 mi)  meter-gauge railway. That linked fakiragram with Kishoreganj in Bihar through Alipurduar. The first train on this route was run on 26 January 1950. After that, the route was converted to a 5 ft 6 in (1676 mm) broad gauge in 2003-2006. So Alipurduar Junction was started 123 years ago in 1901, and the Junction’s previous name was Cooch Behar State Railway and Assam Bengal Railway. It was the then-electrified railway station.
