The Amravati Archaeological Museum is one of the famous archeological museums in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in the town of Amravati in the Guntur district and it is located around 35 km away from Guntur Junction Railway Station on the banks of the Krishna River.

Attraction

Archaeological museums are a collection of ancient artifacts. Similarly, the Amaravati Archaeological Museum has a lot of ancient artifacts, which have been discovered during excavations. The museum is divided into three separate galleries, the first of which showcases prehistoric artistic traditions such as the Purnakumbha designs and the Lotus designs. There are several more additions to this gallery. Such as a standing Buddha statue, an Agni Skanda, a dome, and a throne under the Bodhi tree. The second gallery displays a biography of the Buddha, some coins from that period, and other specimens. The third gallery consists of sculptures such as Yakshi, Dharma Chakra, and Budhisatvas which provide various archeological signs.

History

The Amaravati Archaeological Museum was built by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation to promote archeological artifacts. At the time of its inauguration, the government changed its name to Kalachakra Museum and an Interpretation Centre. It was inaugurated by the 14th Dalai Lama in January 2006. The purpose of creating this museum was to spread the idea about ancient art in public exhibitions. The museum is also meant to set up an interpretation center for those interested in acquiring knowledge about the Amaravati School of Art.

One of the artistic attractions of this archeological museum is Nandishwar, which is a life-like sculpture of a bull. The museum also has a reconstructed mound, consisting of a re-decorated sculpture and is about 15 feet high. For proper maintenance of the museum’s fine works of art, the gallery has been de-humidified and has always been properly air-conditioned.
