    Atala Masjid is a historical mosque of India situated at Rizwi khan in Jaunpur of Uttar PradeshThis is a 14th century Indo-Islamic architecture and also Sharqi architecture by its architectural style. It is 300 meters away from Shahi Qila and 1 kilometer from Jama MasjidThis mosque is on the list of monuments/sites of the Archaeological Survey of India of the Directorate of Archaeology (Uttar Pradesh) and also on the list of monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India. This mosque was built as an ideal for other mosques. Now, it is also used as a college.

    History

    In the past, there used to be a temple called Atala Devi temple. By demolishing this temple, Firuz Shah Tughlaq began the building of this mosque in 1377 A.D. In 1408, Ibrahim Shah Sarque, sultan of Jaunpur completed this mosque. 

    Inside/Outside Views

    Atala Masjid of Jaunpur is more than 100 ft by its height. It has three huge entrances. The total perimeters of the mosque is 248 ft. It has a central dome that is above 17 meters high from the ground level. But it cannot be seen from the front because of the 23 meters tall tower of the mosque. It has 177 feet of side gallery diameters and these galleries are deep like 5 aisle and 2 story high. Every entrance south and north carried a dome. The main prayer room is on the western side. It has Mehrab and minbar. On the eastern side, an ornamental doorway exits. Sloping pylons are the characteristics of Sharqi architecture. It has a 75 feet high and 55 wide pylon at the base. The main hall is 11 feet deep, it has windows for illumination and it is three storeyed with beautiful arches.

    By Air: Lal Bahadur Shastri Babatpur in Varanasi is the nearest airport to Atala Masjid. It is approximately 50 kilometers from the masjid. By reaching the airport in Varanasi you can go by train or bus to reach Atala Masjid. 

    By Train: By taking the train you can go to Jaunpur

    Atala Masjid is around 2 kilometers away From the Jaunpur city railway station. Get a local auto to reach the masjid. You can also book an e-rickshaw. 

    By Road: Jaunpur is easily accessible by road. It is 58 kilometers from Varanasi, 110 kilometers from Allahabad, 142 kilometers from Ayodhoya, 228 kilometers from Lucknow, and 166 kilometers from Gorakhpur. From Varanasi, you can reach Jaunpur by bus or by train in 2 hours. Atala Masjid is around 3 kilometers from Jaunpur bus station. Get local autos or e-rickshaws to reach the masjid.
