    Baba Baidyanath Dham Temple is one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India and that’s why his temple is also known as Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Deoghar in Santhal Paraganas of Jharkhand. People of these areas believed that the light of jyotirlinga is the light of the cosmos and this is realized by the power of the soul as a whole.

    Legend and myth depict an interesting story behind this building of this Dham. During the Treta Yuga according to Ravana, Shiva Purana, the demon King wanted to have this lord Shiva’s abode in his capital and make it safe from invasions permanently. 

    So the king meditated every single day to please the Lord and Someday Lord found it impressive. So Lord asked to carry his lingam to Lanka but there was a condition and that was the journey from Mr.Kailash to Lanka should not stop in between. 

    If all these happened then whenever the lingam fall there it shall reside forever and ever. After many troubles, and planning that Lord Vishnu tricked Ravana and backed the lingam to earth and sat it permanently. So here thus the 12 jyotirlingas story began.
