Mahadev is the symbol of power. He seems like a mighty tiger. Sanatani People worship lord Shiva. The Baghnath temple, which means “Tiger Lord,” is the name of the city of Bagheswar. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the transformer among the “Trinity” -Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh- this well-known Hindu temple is a Shaivism site. This historic shrine is decorated and located in Kumaon’s Bageshwar city. During the holy Shivratri festival, worshippers swarm this shrine.

Attraction

Thousands of Shiva devotees flock to the Bagnath Temple every month, particularly on the day of “Shivratri.” The Hindu deities Lord Bhairav, Dattatrey Maharaj, Ganga Maiya, Lord Hanuman, Goddess Durga, Goddess Kalika, Thingal Bhairav, Panchnam Junakhara, and Vaneswar are all honored in several shrines located in Bageshwar. It is a holy place. People come here to have the “Darshan” of Mahadev. There is a river behind the mandir, and it increases the beauty of the temple. The atmosphere of this place is spiritual. You will feel good and relaxed.

History

According to some accounts, the Bagnath Temple dates back to the 7th century. Laxmi Chand, the Chand monarch, erected the current Nagara-style structure in 1450. The Skanda Purana refers to the shrine as well. Additionally, the temple contains various stone figurines ranging from the seventh to the sixteenth centuries AD. The Hindu scriptures state that Sage Markandeya worshiped Lord Shiva at the Bagnath temple location. In the form of a tiger, Lord Shiva appeared in response to the sages’ prayers and bestowed his blessings upon Markandeya.

The classic Himalayan architectural design often distinguishes the exterior of the temple. It features detailed carvings and a serene atmosphere surrounded by verdant foliage and the beautiful Himalayan peaks in the distance.

How to Reach

By Air: The closest airport is Pantnagar Airport, located 180 km from Bageshwar in the Uttarakhand state’s Udham Singh Nagar district. There are four weekly round-trip flights from Pant Nagar to Delhi, and from Pantnagar Airport, buses and taxis go to Almora and Bageshwar.

By Train: Kathgodam, located in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district, is the closest railhead to Bageshwar. If you’re planning on reaching Kathgodam by train, the Kathgodam Railway Station is the best transportation mode and is located only 149 kilometers away from Bageshwar. You can rely on the railway system to get you to your destination safely and comfortably. Plenty of taxis and buses travel from Kathgodam to Bageshwar and Almora. Kathgodam has excellent connections to critical Indian cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow. Trains frequently serve Kathgodam as the entry point to the Kumaon region.

By Road: Central locations in the Uttarakhand state’s Garhwal and Kumaon regions are connected to Bageshwar via motorized roads. You can hire a local taxi or bus to Bageshwar from several destinations, including Almora, Nainital, Haldwani, and ISBT Anand Vihar. Buses and taxis from the main Kumaon destinations to Bageshwar are readily available.
