Champawat has the most artistic Temples in the district. Baleshwar Temple is situated in the central city of Champawat. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, whose other name is Baleshwar. The temple is one of the ancient and was built by the rulers of the Chand Dynasty. There are two other temples situated nearby: Ratneswar and Champabati Durga. On the auspicious day of Mahashivratri, people from different places come to visit here and receive Lord Shiva’s blessings.

History

There is a history behind this ancient Temple. It is believed that Garud Gayn Chand built it in the 13th century. The Temple is a symbol of Amazing stone carving and was created by the rulers of the Chand Dynasty. Between 1423 and 1421 AD, Hari Chand The Temple’s reconstruction work was completed. Since 1952, it has been declared a national monument heritage. Now, the Archeological Survey of India looks after it. Mahashivratri is celebrated here, with a colorful fair on the immense campus of this Temple. During this time, it is open for public visits.
