    Bindu is a village located just before the Bhutan border, about 107 kilometers from Siliguri, and is the last village in West Bengal. Perched at the height of 2000ft along the meandering river Jaldhaka, scenically blessed with the view of daunting lofty hills and increased demand of tourism in Dooars, Bindu has emerged as a favored offbeat destination of the Dooars region. The word “Bindu” is derived from the Bengali word, which stands for the word “point.” Bindu is famous among travellers for offering an outstanding visual of the Dooars plains and the mountainous valley of Bhutan. River Jaldhaka is created by the conjunction of three rivers that meet at Bindu. The three rivers, Bindu Khola, Dudh Pokhri, and Jaldhaka, originate from the Kupup Lake. Kupup Lake is a small glacial lake in Sikkim. The main purpose of the construction of the Bindu Dam was to control the supply of water to the Jaldhaka Hydel Project at Jhalong. It is the second oldest dam in India.  There is no specific time to visit the Bindu view point, but for a better view and to experience winter, it is the best time from November to mid-January.

    The main attraction of Bindu View Point is the ‘Bindu Barrage’. It is the Jaldhaka River. Many tourists mainly come to visit this barrage to Bindu village. Bindu village is the last point of West Bengal, and the start of Bhutan also the attraction of many tourists.     ‘Bindu’ is a Bengali word which means point. It is the last point of West  Bengal and, at the same time, the joint point of India and Bhutan. For this reason, maybe this village or this place has taken the name ‘Bindu.’ It is a very famous place among nature lovers. Jaldhaka River crosses the Bindu village, and this Jaldhaka River is the combination of two rivers, Bindu Khola and Dudh Pokhri. The Bindu barrage was mainly built to control the supply of water to the Jaldhaka Hydel Project at Jhalong.

    Inside the Bindu viewpoint, you can see a small beautiful village. The people of the village are very generous. In Bindu village, the Bindu dam is the center of attraction. It is the second oldest dam in India.  Near this dam, many small shops are standing and selling their goods. Among them, Their chocolates are very famous because they are from Bhutan. In Bindu village, there are many hotels and resorts available for tourists. Outside the Bindu viewpoint, there are some other tourist spots to enjoy. One of them is Gairibas viewpoint. In this place, you can see some small and big mountains covered with greenery. Near the Bindu, there is another spot named Apple Stone. Also, there is a restaurant named Apple Stone restaurant. In a nutshell, it is the best place to visit.

    How to Reach

    By train: New Mal Junction is the nearest railway station to the spot. From there, it takes only one and two hours.

    By bus: Malbazar bus stand in Siliguri is the nearest bus stand to get there.

    By air: Bagdogra International  Airport, Siliguri, is the nearest airport to Bindu View Point. From there, buses and taxis are available to get to the spot.

    Tips for Travellers

    • The best time to visit the Bindu View Point is in Winter, from November to January. So I suggest you visit in Winter if you want to fully enjoy it.
    • It is a small village, so try to take enough cash with you and don’t rely on the electronic money transfer system. 
    • Photographers are allowed in the place, so try to capture photos as much as you can. 
    • As it is the last village, after that, the area of Bhutan starts, and the security system is strict there. Try to bring your ID card or important documents with you. 
    • There are many places to explore in and out of Bindu, so try to take a long trip for 2-3 days. 
    • Don’t forget to try the traditional food of the village. 
    • As it is a mountainous village, the roads are very risky to drive, so be careful about that.
    • Don’t damage any commodity or harm the wildlife there.
