    History

The origin of these so-called Brindavan Gardens is in the Krishnaraja Sagara Dam in Srirangapatna Taluka, under the Mandya district of Karnataka state. It is known that its construction work started in 1926 and ended in 1932. Then Sir Mirza Ismail wanted to enhance the beauty of the region so he had this plan. He planned all the gardens. It took him 5 years to complete the Dam. The work was completed in 1932 and the Dam was opened to the public. The design of the gardens has been inspired by Bangalore’s Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Kashmir’s Shalimar Bagh, although the map is signed in the ancient Mughal style. Sir Mirza Ismail is the original founder of the garden, which is now managed and preserved by the Kaveri Irrigation Project.
