    History

Chennai’s urban growth has a fascinating history that is connected to Chetpet EcoPark. An abandoned and overgrown body of water in the Chetpet neighborhood served as the original location for the EcoPark. The government of Tamil Nadu started a project to turn the area into a recreational eco-park in order to revitalize it and make better use of the urban land. Beginning in 2013 or 2014, the revitalization project sought to provide a public area for recreation and education while also addressing the city’s ecological demands. In 2016, the park’s official public opening took place. In order to encourage eco-friendly travel and provide city dwellers with a place to connect with nature, Chetpet EcoPark was developed as part of a broader project to establish green spaces around Chennai.
