    The first cable car system in India is the Darjeeling Ropeway. It is the ropeway of cable cars situated between the North point of Darjeeling and Singla on the bank of the river Rambam. The ropeway has become one of the most popular and attractive tourist spots in Darjeeling. This ropeway is the most famous place in Darjeeling and the most visitable place also.

    History

    Indian's best ropeway in Darjeeling

    In 1968 the Ropeway was first started with a single cable car authorized by the forest development department. After that, they got sixteen cable cars and it became one of the main tourist spots in Darjeeling. The ropeway was reconstructed in 1988. Meantime from the year 2003, the ropeway was stopped due to an accident on  13th October 2003. In the year 2005, a committee was formed to sort out the issues and ensure safety for the visitors. The Ropeway reopened on 2nd February 2012.

    The mesmerizing view from the cable car of Ropeway cannot be expressed in words. Visitors will get a view of the valley, hills, slopes, green tea gardens, forest, flowing river, waterfalls, and the most magnificent view of the eastern range of the Himalayans. They will also get a glimpse of the snow peaks of Kanchenjunga. The sight of the river Rammam and little Ranjeet is mind-blowing. The ranjeet valley is covered with flowers and butterflies. From the car the junction point of the River Ramman and little river Ranjeet can be seen which is in Large Ranjeet originated from the mount Kabru.

    9.30 am to 4 pm is the visiting time of this place.

    It will cost Rs.200 for the adult person (5km round trip). Rs.100 for the child (3-8 years old).

    How to Reach

    By road: From Darjeeling city, the Darjeeling Ropeway is only 3.4 km away. It will take approximately eleven minutes to reach the ropeway from Darjeeling city by car.

    By railway: The Darjeeling Ropeway is 68 km away from the Siliguri Jn Train Station. It will take approximately 2 hours 33 minutes from the station to reach the ropeway. And from the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, the Darjeeling Ropeway is 73.5 km away. It will take approximately 2 hours 46 minutes from the station to reach the destination.

    By airport: The Bagdogra Airport is 72.9 km away from the  Darjeeling Ropeway, it will take around 2 hours 40 minutes to reach the destination.

    Yes, there was an accident on 13th October 2003. Four people died and eleven were injured when the cable car slipped from the rope and fell down from a height of 100 feet in a tea garden.
